Brush Pile Building in the Traverse City Forest Management Unit (Kalkaska County)

04/05/2025 09:00 AM - 01:00 PM ET

Description

About the project: Join MUCC's On the Ground (OTG) program in partnership with Land Ethic, LLC, as we construct brush piles in the Traverse City Forest Management Unit in Kalkaska County. Brush piles provide numerous benefits to a variety of wildlife. Volunteers are needed on Saturday, April 5, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. We will also be drawing a random winner from the volunteer list for a guided upland bird hunt with our partner, Land Ethics LLC.

Meeting location: Volunteers will meet at the two-track opening on Riverview Rd. SE, east of Birch Run Rd. and west of Homestead Trail.

What to bring:  Bring your work gloves if you have them and your enthusiasm for improving wildlife habitats! We will be moving large logs and branches, so closed-toe boots, a long-sleeve shirt, and long pants are recommended.  Attendees are also encouraged to bring a reusable water bottle, although bottled water will be provided throughout the day. These projects will take place rain or shine unless there is severe weather, so please dress accordingly. A volunteer lunch and free appreciation gift will also be provided to all registered volunteers.

Registration closes on April 4th at 2:00 PM. To speed along sign-in during the event, please fill out this digital volunteer waiver individually by each person in your party. Individuals under 18 can have a parent or guardian sign for them. If you need to register or cancel after this date/time, please email MUCC's Habitat Program and Partnerships Coordinator Olivia Triltsch at otriltsch@mucc.org so the lunch order can be updated.
