Dam Improvement Project at the Blind Sucker Flooding (Luce County)
Description
About the project: On Saturday, September 14, 2024, MUCC's On the Ground program will be partnering with the Michigan DNR for a dam improvement project at the Blind Sucker Wildlife Flooding in Luce County. Volunteers are needed from 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM. This project will involve moving gravel around the dam to mitigate erosion, planting native wildflowers, and removing invasive species. There is a Wildlife Activity Trail with interpretive signs and information about wildlife located at the #1 campground for volunteers interested in checking out after the project.
Meeting location: Volunteers will meet at the Blind Sucker #1 State Forest Campground.

What to bring: Closed-toed boots, long pants, and a long-sleeved shirt are recommended. This project will take place rain or shine unless there is severe weather so please dress accordingly. Any necessary equipment will be provided including work gloves, buckets, shovels, and rakes. A volunteer lunch and appreciation gift will also be provided to all registered volunteers.
