Mast-producing Tree Planting in the Newberry Forest Management Unit
Description
About the project: Join MUCC's On the Ground in partnership with the Michigan DNR Wildlife Division to plant mast-producing trees within the Newberry Forest Management Unit (Luce County). Volunteers are needed on Saturday, June 8, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. A mix of red oaks and apple trees will be planted and fenced in an effort to improve forage for wildlife including white-tailed deer and upland game birds. The Silver Creek Birding Trail runs along the project site for volunteers interested in checking it out after the planting.
Meeting location: Volunteers will meet at the DNR Customer Service Center in Newberry and caravan about 20 minutes north to the project site.
