Prairie Restoration at Pierce Cedar Creek Institute

09/11/2021 09:00 AM - 02:00 PM ET

Join MUCC's On the Ground program and the Pierce Cedar Creek Institute (PCCI) as we remove woody vegetation to begin the process of restoring a prairie located on publicly accessible PCCI land. In order to prepare the field for a prescribed burn and other ecological restoration efforts, a hedgerow and other woody shrubs need to be removed from a 5-acre field. This project will benefit a wide variety of native wildlife and pollinator species. Volunteers will use hand saws and loppers to cut and pile the woody brush, while chainsaws will be available as needed for larger vegetation requiring removal. All necessary equipment and PPE will be provided for this event, although volunteers are encouraged to bring their own work gloves.

Due to the high level of volunteer interest this event has received, we will be capping attendance at 40 volunteers. If you are unable to register it means the event attendance limit has been reached. Thank you to everyone that has registered and everyone that has expressed interest in this event. We hope to see you at other OTG events in the future. For a full list of events, please visit

The event will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. but may end earlier depending on how quickly the project is completed. All registered volunteers will receive a free lunch and volunteer appreciation gift.

Volunteers will park and meet at Meadow Lodge within Pierce Cedar Creek Institute. Meadow Lodge is located on W Cloverdale Road in Hastings (Google Maps coordinates: 42°32'12.9"N 85°18'36.9"W). Volunteers will drive past the main entrance to Pierce Cedar Creek Institute, and Meadow Lodge is located at the first driveway on the left side of the road past the main entrance.
